AltamontCowork University (AltWork U) was established to help YOU keep up with the ever changing world of technology, social media, and business.  The faculty members of AltWork U are experts in their fields and are committed to continuing education…..and Tracy.

As part of this commitment, we will support our members as they develop courses that will help educate Tracyites on a number of interesting and diverse subjects.

“How Money Works – A Seminar for Anyone Struggling in this Economy”

If you’ve ever wondered how money works–like how the banks and insurance companies make their money. Like how your credit card companies make so much money. Like why business owners like having a business rather than a job, then this *No Fee* seminar presentation will interest you!

“Blogging 101″

A class on how to create and maintain a Blog. The class will not instruct you how to write a blog but will help you get more out of optimizing the Blog.  If the class is paid for in advance the student will receive 3 to 5 articles to post on your blog in almost any category you can imagine.

“Tracy Island Online Made Easy”

Tracy Island online is fast becoming the social meeting place in Tracy, CA.  Learn how to navigate and use the Tracy Island site.  Set up your pages, change the background pictures, upload photos and movies, add a blog and discussion topics, and much more.

This free course is taught by Tracy Island’s Founder, Joleen Ruffin.

“Introduction to Microsoft Office and Open Office”

Looking for a new job but do not know the basics of Word, Excel, or Powerpoint?  Attend this class for a solid introduction to these programs.  Hands-on experience is the best, so bring your laptop computer.  We will also introduce Open Office which is a free office suite similar to, and compatible with, Office.

Cost: $10 per person (includes donuts, bagels, coffee, etc)

“Connecting to the Internet”

This quick 1 hour course will help you understand the Internet, how it works, and how you can use your computer to access the information you need.  You will learn how to search using Google and what to watch out for for your security.   A very quick introduction to Skype were you can visit with friends and family as if you were there!   Seniors welcome.

Cost: $10 per person (includes donuts, bagels, coffee, etc)

“The Basics of Digital Movie Making”

A two day seminar, with LAB, that will teach the beginning student how to use their digital camera and computer (Windows to start) to make a movie (using Windows Movie Maker) that can be uploaded to a DVD, YouTube, and Tracy Island.

Cost: $50 per person (includes donuts, bagels, coffee, etc)

When:  Next Class TBD (two days on weekends)

Limit: 20 people (bring your camera and laptop)

“Help Your Students With Math-Workshops (K-8)”

If your student is having problems with Math and you can’t help?  Can’t afford a tutor, or the teacher cannot not help after school?   Attend our Wednesday evening Workshops from 5 PM to 6 PM.  Bring in some problems and learn how to solve them.  Work with other parents to solve problems.  Learn the basics of tutoring Math to your own child.  Form a support group with parents and teachers to help with sticky problems.  Math can be fun!

When:  Wednesdays (when interest demands), 5 PM to 6 PM

Cost: $10 per session

Requirement:  The willingness to learn Math, K-8
